Vehicle Speed Detecting App

چکیده
I hereby declare that the work submitted for assessment is original and my own work, except where acknowledged in the submission. Abstract This report presents the measurement of vehicular speed using a smartphone camera. The speed measurement is accomplished by detecting the position of the vehicle on a camera frame using OpenCV's library LBP cascade classifier, the displacement of the detected vehicle with time is used to compute the speed. Conversion coefficient is determined to map the pixel displacement to actual vehicle distance. The speeds measured are proportional to the ground truth speeds. Acknowledgements The completion of this report has been possible only because of the support received from numerous sources which deserve special mention. I would like to begin by thanking God for the grace to excel through the Master's program. A big thank you to every member of my family: XXXXXXXX are greatly appreciated for financially sponsoring the MSc program. XXXXXXXX are acknowledged for being very supportive during the course of this Msc program. XXXXXXXX deserves an inexpressible gratitude for his benevolence and encouragement. I thank XXXXXXXX and XXXXXXXX my supervisor and second maker respectively for their useful suggestions that have been essential to the completion of this project. XXXXXXXX the Program Leader is also acknowledged for her high sense of duty and support to all Master's students assigned to her. My colleagues in the Master's program and in my Department have been good friends and are appreciated.

Roadrunner: Infrastructure-less Vehicular Congestion Control
RoadRunner is an in-vehicle app for traffic congestion control without costly roadside infrastructure, instead judiciously harnessing vehicle-to-vehicle communications, cellular connectivity, and onboard computation and sensing to enable large-scale traffic congestion control at higher penetration and finer granularity than previously possible. RoadRunner limits the number of vehicles in a cong...
متن کاملAn Assessment of the Impact of Pedestrian Refuge Islands on Vehicle Speed Changes and Pedestrian Safety: Case Study in Tehran
Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable road users. Speed of vehicles is considered as one of the major causes of danger for pedestrians crossing the street. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to devise suitable solutions to reduce speed of vehicles. One of these solutions is installation of Pedestrian Refuge Islands (PRI) in very wide midblocks. With regard to fluctuations in pedestrian a...
متن کاملLocalized Processing and Analysis of Accelerometer Data in Detecting Traffic Events and Driver Behaviour
Recent advancements in sensor technologies resulted in the development of sensors with small dimensions and with power consumption that is low enough to be embedded in various mobile devices and which is widely integrated in vehicles. Such sensors can be extensively used to detect real-time traffic events and situations of user/vehicle in contextaware mobile applications. This paper explores th...
متن کاملFreeway Control Using a Dynamic Traffic Flow Model and Vehicle Reidentification Techniques
Freeway traffic flow is described in terms of control theory. The detecting elements of millimeter-wave radar sensors, which detect speed and occupancy time by a 61-GHz continuous-wave doppler radar, are used. The regulating unit consists of variable traffic signs for traffic-dependent speed limit and alternative route guidance. The control unit consists of a local computer and a control center...
